In the Garden

- - - Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Yes, it's that time again! Time to get the garden up and running! I'm very excited for this years crop because we're doing some extra things to expand from last year......a little more space and Paul has rototilled all the dirt so it's nice and loose and fluffy and then we'll add some fertilizer and other nutrients to the soil. My mom and dad are coming this weekend for  a visit and to help me get things rolling out there. All day gardening for this pregnant lady is not really an option these days....but I can do some.
Paul and I went to Home Depot to rent the rototille and had to load it in the pick-up ourselves and of course I can't lift  anything too heavy but I was at one end lifting a small part of it so Paul could pull it in to the truck.....definitely within my limits but I realized how it must have looked.......pregnant lady at Home Depot with her husband while he makes her lift heavy  machinery...... Ha! How redneck is that?! Some guy came running over to help us, probably thinking who are these crazy people? We had a good laugh over it.......
My greenhouse has had a tough time already this year thanks to a certain husband, a chainsaw and a tree.......but it looks like it will survive.

Storms in Tennessee

- - - Wednesday, April 15, 2009
The weather has been crazy around here lately. A lot of storms have been passing through and storms this time of year often bring tornados with them. There was quite a big one that touched down last Friday afternoon in Murfreesboro, TN which is about 40 minutes from our house. It destroyed around 100 homes, killed two people (a women and her 9 week old baby) and injured dozens. It's amazing that more people weren't killed by the looks of the desruction. They showed a lot of it on the news and some houses were completely reduced to piles of rubble with absolutely nothing left to salvage. Imagine...coming home from work to find your house completely GONE!  That would be devastating.  We were lucky out in our area...we only had the heavy rains and wind but it's weird to think how close to home this one was! They are so unpredictable...homes being demolished while the house right across the street is untouched.  Mother nature is a crazy powerful thing!

We're Having a...

Guess what? We're having a baby girl! Yahoo! We're very excited about it! It sure makes a difference knowing what we're having. Now it seems like more of a real person in there and we can stop calling her 'it'.  We had the ultra sound last week and it was unbelievable what they see now with their technology. You can see every little thing from the spine to the heart and the stomach, kidneys, etc...and she was even pointing her finger at one point too! I had trouble telling one body part from another but Paul seemed to be able to follow better than I did. Plus, they gave us a DVD of everything so we could go back and see it all again.  They did a very thorough inspection and she got a healthy report, which of course is great news. Now it's time to paint the nursery and start getting things ready!
